Deadly Drag-Racing Crash in Albany,Father and 4-Year-Old Son Killed as Two Drivers Face Homicide Charges
A tragic drag-racing incident in Albany has claimed the lives of a young father and his 4-year-old son, leaving a community in mourning and two drivers facing serious criminal charges. According to the Albany Police Department, the fatal crash occurred night around 9:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Krug Street.
Authorities identified the victims as 26-year-old Rickey Thomas and his young son, who both died at the scene after a high-speed collision involving multiple vehicles. Police say two other individuals were injured in the crash and were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators revealed that the deadly incident stemmed from illegal drag racing on a public roadway. A vehicle traveling at excessive speed reportedly lost control and slammed into a group of cars, causing catastrophic damage. The driver of that vehicle has been identified as 24-year-old Brandon King, who now faces multiple charges, including two counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, reckless driving, and racing on a highway.
Police also identified a second driver involved in the racing activity as 25-year-old Jacob Daniels Jr. Authorities say Daniels initially fled the scene but later returned, at which point he was taken into custody. He faces similar charges, including two counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, reckless driving, and participating in illegal racing.
The devastating crash highlights the deadly consequences of reckless driving and illegal street racing.
