Charlotte Pool Party Shooting, One Dead and Multiple Injured After Gunfire Erupts at Crowded Gathering
A joyful gathering turned into tragedy in Charlotte after gunfire broke out at a crowded pool party, leaving one person dead and several others injured. The incident occurred along Hucks Road near Old Statesville Road and Interstate 485, where hundreds of people had gathered for what was meant to be a lively social event.
Authorities identified the victim as Richard Thomas, also known as “RJ,” a 20-year-old whose life was cut short in the chaos. Police confirmed that four additional individuals were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, bringing the total number of victims to five.
Witnesses described a sudden eruption of gunfire that sent partygoers running for safety. Despite efforts by the event organizer to maintain order, including the use of wristbands for attendees under 21 and pat-downs at entry, the situation escalated in a matter of moments. The property had reportedly been rented through Swimply, a service that allows individuals to lease private pools for events.
Law enforcement officials say the investigation remains active as they work to determine what led to the shooting and identify those responsible. At this time, it is unclear whether the violence stemmed from a dispute among attendees or if other factors were involved.
The tragic incident has left the Charlotte community shaken, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety at large gatherings. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue to piece together the events of that night.
