Courtroom Developments in Tragic Case,Suspects Charged in Shooting Death of 7-Year-Old Zoey Price
Two suspects accused in the tragic shooting death of 7-year-old Zoey Price appeared in a Fulton County Magistrate Court courtroom on Tuesday, as the case continues to move forward through the legal system. Authorities confirmed that both defendants will remain in custody at the Fulton County Jail while awaiting further proceedings.
The suspects, Steven Richardson, 17, and Preston Smith, 19, face a series of serious charges stemming from the February 24 shooting. During the hearing, a judge determined there was sufficient probable cause to advance the case to a grand jury. A request seeking bond for Smith was withdrawn, ensuring he remains behind bars alongside Richardson.
Investigators revealed that the deadly incident was allegedly triggered by a threatening phone call Smith made to Zoey’s brother. During the call, Smith reportedly threatened to “shoot up” the house where the child was present. Authorities say both suspects then drove to the residence and fired shots into the home, leading to the young girl’s death.
Smith now faces multiple charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and firearm-related offenses. Richardson, who is a minor, is charged with murder, attempted murder, and additional counts tied to the violent act, including cruelty to children.
The heartbreaking loss of Zoey has deeply impacted the community, as officials continue working to ensure justice is served and accountability is upheld in this devastating case.
