Tragic Shooting in Abilene, 19-Year-Old Juan Diego Mendez Found Fatally Wounded Outside Home
Authorities in Abilene are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Juan Diego Mendez on Monday evening. According to the Abilene Police Department, officers responded to a call reporting an injured individual in the 3800 block of Concord Drive in north Abilene. Upon arrival, they discovered Mendez outside a residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders quickly transported Mendez to a nearby hospital in an effort to save his life. Despite medical intervention, he was pronounced deceased at 6:04 p.m. as a result of his injuries. Police confirmed that a 19-year-old woman who was inside the home at the time of the shooting was taken to the station for questioning.
