Midday Gunfire in Plainview,  One Suspect Arrested After Crash Near School, Two Others Still Sought

Authorities in Plainview are actively investigating a frightening midday shooting incident that led to the arrest of one suspect and an ongoing search for two others. According to law enforcement, officers with the Plainview Police Department and deputies from the Hale County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of Calle Martinez shortly before 1:40 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a 31-year-old woman who reported that three men had fired multiple gunshots toward her home, putting lives at risk in what appears to be a targeted act. Fortunately, no injuries were immediately reported, but the incident caused alarm throughout the neighborhood.

Investigators say one of the suspects fled the scene in a tan Chevrolet pickup truck. Based on witness accounts and evidence gathered, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another car in the parking lot of the South Plains Head Start School, raising further concern due to the proximity to a school environment.

Witnesses reported seeing a shirtless man carrying a handgun fleeing from the crash site. Officers quickly located and arrested Derrick Morales, 21, in connection with the incident. He now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Meanwhile, authorities are continuing their search for two additional suspects believed to have been traveling in a blue car. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the motive and ensure public safety.
