Active Investigation Update, Preliminary Summary of the Serenade Street Incident
It is important to note that this case remains an active investigation, and the information provided here reflects only a summarized account based on preliminary findings. On March 23, 2026, at approximately 2:58 p.m., the communications center received an anonymous complaint regarding loud music in the 800 block of Serenade Street Northwest. A second call reporting the same disturbance was received at 3:40 p.m.
While officers were en route, a more urgent call came in at 3:58 p.m., reporting that a female had discharged multiple rounds from her residence at 859 Serenade Street Northwest. The individual was later identified as 53-year-old Kamla Grimmer. Upon arrival, officers formed a contact team and issued announcements via a public address system. At around 4:17 p.m., Kamla began firing from within her residence toward the rear canal area where officers had established a perimeter, prompting a “Code Red” alert instructing residents to shelter indoors.
Efforts to de-escalate the situation included phone negotiations beginning at 4:35 p.m. Despite multiple attempts to secure a peaceful surrender, Kamla fired additional shots at 4:43 p.m. and again later in the evening. SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams were deployed, maintaining communication throughout. At approximately 6:09 p.m., after Kamla fired directly at SWAT personnel, officers returned fire.
Following further escalation, gas was deployed, and a drone later confirmed she was unresponsive. At 7:17 p.m., entry was made, and she was pronounced deceased. No officers or civilians were injured.
