Madison Parking Ramp Homicide,Authorities Identify Victim and Arrest Suspect in Targeted Shooting
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the woman found dead in a downtown parking structure over the weekend as 61-year-old Christine Jones of Cottage Grove. Authorities confirmed Tuesday that Jones was discovered before 8 a.m. Sunday inside a parking ramp located on the 300 block of West Washington Avenue in Madison.
According to the Madison Police Department, the case is being actively investigated as a homicide after it was determined that Jones suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Officials noted that while an autopsy was completed Monday, the official cause and manner of death are still pending further examination and reports from forensic specialists.
The incident marks the third homicide recorded in Madison so far this year, raising concern among local residents and authorities. In a significant development, police announced the arrest of 31-year-old Diamond Wallace on Monday. Wallace has been booked into the Dane County Jail on charges of first-degree intentional homicide.
Investigators revealed that a firearm was recovered from Wallace’s apartment, which may be connected to the crime. Authorities also disclosed that Wallace and Jones were previously acquainted, having worked together in the past. Detectives believe the shooting was not random but rather a targeted act, though the motive remains under investigation as officials continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
