Fairview Heights Murder Case Update, Suspect Roosevelt Washington Charged and Held Without Bond.
Authorities in Fairview Heights have released an important update regarding the March 21, 2026 murder investigation, confirming that a suspect has been formally charged in connection with the case. According to the Fairview Heights Police Department, Roosevelt C. Washington, 41, has been identified as the sole suspect, and investigators have stated that he was known to the victim.
Following a thorough investigation, detectives presented their findings to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office, led by James Gomric. As a result, Washington has been formally charged under case number 2026CF000535 with murder/intent to kill or injure, classified as a Class M criminal felony under Illinois law.
Officials confirmed that Washington is currently being held at the St. Clair County Jail as he awaits further court proceedings. At this time, no additional suspects are being sought, indicating that investigators believe this was an isolated incident.
The Fairview Heights Police Department also expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by surrounding law enforcement agencies that responded to the scene in the 100 block of Bountiful. Their coordinated efforts, officials say, were instrumental in quickly advancing the investigation and identifying the suspect.
While this development marks significant progress in the case, authorities emphasized the importance of due process. As required by the Illinois Supreme Court, Washington is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
