Teen Charged in Deadly Domestic Shooting Denied Bond, Tragic Spartanburg County Incident Raises Questions
A 17-year-old has been denied bond after being charged as an adult in connection with a deadly domestic shooting in Spartanburg County. Authorities say the incident unfolded early Tuesday morning at a residence on Thomas Alley in Moore, leaving one man dead and a family shaken.
According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call around 6:24 a.m. reporting a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified by the coroner as 32-year-old Lidarrell Cheeks.
Investigators quickly took 17-year-old Deondre Smith-Jefferson into custody. During a bond hearing, the solicitor revealed that Cheeks was the suspect’s stepfather. A statement presented in court described how the victim’s wife had been heading to her car for work when she heard a loud noise inside the home. Returning inside, she found her husband lying on the floor after being shot.
She reportedly told authorities she was unaware of any argument or disturbance prior to the incident. Officials noted that deputies had previously responded to the home for domestic-related calls, suggesting a history of tension.
Law enforcement emphasized the unpredictability of domestic disputes, calling the situation tragic and life-altering. Investigators continue to gather details, and the case remains active. Authorities have stated there is no ongoing threat to the public. Smith-Jefferson is scheduled to appear in court on May 21.
